Seattle Reign and United States national team player Megan Rapinoe made headlines last week when she kneeled during the national anthem before an NWSL match against the Chicago Red Stars, and now her local club is standing behind her right to protest.
Rapinoe knelt in solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and others around the NFL as a peaceful protest against injustice in the United States.
“Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties," Rapinoe said last week.
