Seattle makes latest cut as potential 2026 World Cup host site

To no one’s surprise, Seattle has made the list of 23 finalist cities chosen as potential 2026 FIFA World Cup of Soccer host sites in a joint bid among the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The bid lists 17 potential U.S. sites, the vast majority of which are current Major League Soccer locales or those tabbed for future expansion. The Sounders led MLS in overall attendance their first eight years of operation before falling to No. 2 behind Atlanta last season.

FIFA will pick between the joint effort and a rival bid from Morocco on June 13. If the joint bid is chosen, FIFA would then select up to 16 of the 23 submitted finalist cities as host sites.
