S2 players recreate iconic ‘Timber’ celebration

With S2 having such a heavy contingent of Seattle-area natives, it should come as little surprise that the players are well-versed in Sounders lore. Still, we’d never really seen that familiarity play out in a particularly notable way on the field.

That changed on Thursday when Sounders Academy product Sam Rogers scored a go-ahead goal at Providence Park. After pounding home the header, Rogers found teammate Zach Mathers and they recreated Roger Levesque’s “Timber” celebration from the 2009 U.S. Open Cup. S2 went on to win 2-1.

To be fair, neither Mathers nor Rogers came particularly close to performing the celebration at the level of the 2009 vintage.
