TACOMA, Wash. — The future is officially now when it comes to the long-term home of Sounders FC 2. The USL club announced on Wednesday that it will begin playing at Cheney Stadium for the 2018 season before moving into a soccer-specific stadium, which is targeted for 2020. Sounder at Heart first reported the move almost exactly two weeks ago.
As part of the move, the Tacoma Rainiers will acquire an ownership stake in the team and assume responsibilities for running the business operations. The Sounders will continue to employ the technical staff and players, and they will still train at Starfire Sports Complex along with the First Team and Academy.
