Osvaldo Alonso returns to starting lineup in massive way to lead Seattle Sounders to first win of MLS season

SEATTLE — For the first time since September 2017, Seattle Sounders captain Osvaldo Alonso started. And for the first time in the 2018 Major League Soccer season, the Sounders won.

That’s no coincidence. “El Corazón” — the heart — is more than just a nickname. Alonso has been the lifeblood of the Seattle midfield for nearly a decade and will go down as the best defensive midfielder in MLS history.

Alonso’s stats speak for themselves. On Sunday in a 3-1 win over Minnesota United, he completed 56 of 59 passes (95 percent accuracy), won 77 percent of his duels, made five tackles and recorded five recoveries in 75 minutes.
