Sacramento to MLS seemed completely inevitable right until the moment the bid all but fell apart. It seems that there has been a split between the Sacramento Republic and the group that put in the bid. Deadspin is calling it an "ownership coup".
The Sacramento Republic released a statement indicating that they were caught just as off-guard as everyone else.
The mayor of Sacramento is now actively trying to broker a deal between the two sides in an effort to restore the bid to what everyone was expecting.
