The one-time King of Cascadia returns to the land of sea and sky. The Vancouver Whitecaps announced the necessary trade up in the Allocation List and the acquisition of former Seattle Sounders All Star Fredy Montero. Vancouver gave up an international spot, $100k in General Allocation Money, and $125k in Targeted Allocation Money for a year of Montero’s services. He is only on loan, with an option to buy.
That does mean that the Montero transfer saga will take place again in the 2017-18 MLS offseason. For 2017, though, the three-time All Star, ‘09 Newcomer of the Year, three-time Open Cup winner, and Cascadia Cup champion is a Whitecap.
