Sweden is going to the World Cup and Gustav Svensson appears to be in a wonderful position to go along with them. Svensson played 71 minutes off the bench as Sweden held on to the 1-0 lead they built in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying playoff against Italy.
This marks the first time since 2006 that Sweden has qualified for the World Cup and it’s the first time since 1958 that Italy has missed the quadrennial tournament.
As recently as a few months ago, Svensson had only a bit part in Sweden’s national team setup.
