Clint Dempsey wins MLS Comeback Player of the Year, will play for Sounders again in 2018

Sounders forward Clint Dempsey said Wednesday that winning the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award won’t be the biggest thing on his mind this upcoming week.

Dempsey, 34, is trying to help his Sounders return to the MLS Cup final and that starts next Tuesday in Houston, where the first leg of the two-game Western Conference final opens. He missed last year’s championship run after being sidelined for the season in August with an irregular heartbeat, a condition that initially left this season’s return in doubt.

And Dempsey plans to stick around beyond this season as well, with sources confirming an earlier ESPN report that he has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the club.
