Clint Dempsey is undergoing medical tests for an irregular heartbeat, the Seattle Sounders announced on Friday. As a result, Dempsey won’t be available for Sunday’s game against the Portland Timbers or a pair of upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Sounders’ next game is not until Sept. 10 -- at the San Jose Earthquakes — but it remains unclear if he’d be cleared by then.
"As the medical process unfolds and information is gathered internally, no other details are being made publicly available at this time," the Sounders release stated.
