There was a special guest in attendance at Saturday’s match. Nathan Beatty, an 8-year-old with an inoperable form of brain cancer, got to fulfill one of his dreams when he got to meet Clint Dempsey and the rest of the Seattle Sounders.
His family was clearly moved by the outpouring of support shown by the Sounders organization, who first came into contact with Beatty during their recent road game against the Houston Dynamo. After apparently learning of Beatty’s story through Dempsey’s brother, the Sounders invited the Texas native to that game on Aug. 24.
Unfortunately, that also happened to be a road trip Dempsey missed with what was later revealed to be an irregular heartbeat.
