Pete Carroll, Seahawks players mourn loss of team owner Paul Allen

Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen passed away on Monday at just 65 years of age after his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma had returned. Allen was the co-founder of Microsoft more than 40 years ago, and eventually became the owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, and co-owner of Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders.

For Seahawks fans, he was the savior of the franchise, as his $200 million purchase of the team in 1996 prevented the Seahawks from moving to Southern California, as Ken Behring had already planned. The city has since been treated to three Super Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl win, and 12 playoff berths under Allen’s ownership.
