One national report suggests an inaccurately timed 40 might have led to Shaquem Griffin's draft slide.
That the Seahawks were able to draft Shaquem Griffin to pair him with twin brother Shaquill on the Seattle defense was the feel-good story of the 2018 NFL Draft.
That they were able to get him with the 141st overall pick, early in the fifth round, was also one of the “how’d that happen?” stories of the NFL Draft.
Conventional wisdom going into the draft held that Shaquem Griffin would go much higher, particularly after he ran a 4.38 40 at the NFL Combine — the fastest of any linebacker and the eighth-fastest of any player there — which then led to him being invited to the draft in Arlington, Texas, a status generally reserved for players who have a chance to be taken on the first day, and certainly not those who might fall to the fifth.
