Carroll: Avril to have disc surgery; Chancellor done for year

Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril will have "disc-related" surgery on Tuesday, coach Pete Carroll announced Monday morning on 710 ESPN Seattle. Avril is currently on the injured reserve list with a neck injury suffered Oct. 1.

Strong safety Kam Chancellor is done for the year, Carroll said. Chancellor hasn't played since suffering a neck stinger Nov. 9 at Arizona. Chancellor will likely join Richard Sherman (Achilles) on IR.

"He's not going to make it back this year," Carroll said. "Beyond that, it's up to him."

The coach has said in the past that Chancellor's injury is not the same as the neck/spinal issue that has Avril set to undergo surgery this week.
