Seahawks Draft Plans May Not Include Offensive Line Prospects

The Seattle Seahawks were rumored to be looking to improve their offensive line through the draft, but that doesn't mean they'll draft an offensive lineman or two.

General manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll have a history of converting players into offensive lineman, and they are prepared to do the same thing again this year if need be.

“In terms of our philosophy we are going to keep attacking it the same way we always have,’’ Schneider said. "[Offensive line coach Tom Cable] does a great job. Whether or not we convert guys, if that’s what you are asking, it really for us just depends on what the draft looks like.’’

The Seattle Times notes that "some have questioned their willingness to convert players from other positions — tight end or the defensive line — to the offensive line and wondered last season if that was a reason for some of the unit’s struggles," but it's clear that the Seahawks think that's the way to go if they don't find an offensive line prospect they like. Seattle prefers athletes that are strong and quick, allowing them to excel in their zone blocking scheme, and they aren't afraid to look to other positions to find those skills.
