Tigers’ Justin Upton goes deep twice on Mariners, the last one wins it 8-7 in the 12th inning

That Upton was batting with a chance to win the game was a product of Seattle failures in the 10th, 11th and 12th innings to push across a run despite having multiple runners in scoring position.

DETROIT — Justin Upton’s first homer put the Tigers back in the game. His second homer won it for them.

And in between, the Mariners managed to strand a small village of base runners and find new and creative ways not to come up with the big hit.

Upton led off the bottom of the 12th inning, driving a 2-2 changeup from Vidal Nuno over the wall past left-center to give Detroit a walkoff 8-7 victory over the Mariners on Monday night.
