After all the hype and anticipation, tension and drama, the Mariners are back to where they started before that critical series in Oakland. The standings didn’t budge. And ending the series on a sour note makes it feel even worse. There’s still a narrow path to the playoffs but without a series win in Oakland, that path became much more difficult. The Mariners have really struggled to take care of business when they’ve needed to in the second half of the season. Trusting them to control their own destiny and hoping for some extremely good luck is a fool’s errand.
