Gone are the days Seattle Mariners fans will hear Tone Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina” at Safeco Field — the team has traded right-handed reliever Yoervis Medina to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a new catcher, Welington Castillo.
Castillo, 28, has batted .163 this season in 24 games as a backup catcher, with seven hits, five RBIs and two home runs in 43 at-bats for the Cubs. A six-year veteran of the major leagues, he is a career .252 hitter who had two seasons — 2013 and 2014 — as Chicago’s starter behind the plate.
