It was always considered a long shot, but when Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto announced last December that left-hander Danny Hultzen was moving to the bullpen, it renewed hope that Hultzen could resurrect his career after shoulder injuries had seemingly derailed his chances of pitching in the big leagues.
Hultzen, the No. 2 overall pick by the Mariners in the 2011 MLB draft, reported to 2016 spring training and pitched well, but it wasn't long before he felt shoulder fatigue and was shut down indefinitely in March.
According to The (Tacoma) News Tribune, Hultzen's career now appears over after shoulder problems emerged after he threw twice recently in the Arizona Rookie League, allowing one earned run over two innings.
