On This Date: Ken Griffey Jr. Makes Major League Debut

It was 31 years ago today at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum that Ken Griffey Jr. made his Major League debut at the age of 19, less than two years after being selected 1st overall by the Mariners in the 1987 Draft.

In a start befitting his Hall of Fame career, Griffey picked up a hit in his first big league plate appearance, lacing a double to left-center field off A’s All-Star right-hander Dave Stewart.
