Notebook: Mariners announce the signing of first Gaby Sanchez, offseason injury updates

While most of the Mariners’ 25-man roster has already been determined with more than three weeks before pitchers and catchers actually report to Peoria, Arizona on Feb. 19, there will still be some competition for a few of the final roster spots.

Perhaps the most intriguing will be the role of back-up first baseman/right-handed hitter off the bench.

You can officially add two more names to the competition.

On Thursday at the Mariners’ annual pre-spring training media luncheon, general manager Jerry Dipoto announced that the organization had finalized a deal with veteran first baseman Gaby Sanchez with an invitation to spring training.
