Nick Vincent, Erasmo Ramirez Forced to Walk Plank, Choose to Jump Instead of Be Chained to Oars

We knew this was coming for Erasmo Ramirez, but now the news breaks that another Mariner pitcher will hit free agency.

Though not expensive in an absolute sense, Nick Vincent doesn’t stand out enough as a reliever to make him worth his likely arbitration payout of $2.7mm. Between that and Erasmo’s $4.7mm, the club saves a nearly Denard Span-sized pile of money, and Vincent and Erasmo are able, as a result of their service time, to opt for free agency instead of accepting the outright assignment to Tacoma. Notably, this means no team claimed either on waivers, so MLB agrees with the Mariners’ assessment that neither is worth their projected arbitration figure and it’s possible Vincent, at least, could end up back in a Seattle uniform.
