In news that is personally devastating to LL staffer and official Shed Long Appreciator Amanda, today the Mariners announced they’re transferring Shed Long to the 60-day IL. In a corresponding move, the team also claimed INF Jack Mayfield on waivers from the Angels.
Shed had surgery this past September to repair a stress fracture in his shin, which involved having a metal rod inserted in his leg. With a typical recovery time of 6-8 weeks, the hope was he’d be ready to go for spring training; unfortunately, that proved not to be the case, as Shed appeared in a couple of backfields games but was held back by inflammation in his surgically-repaired leg.
