On Wednesday, the Mariners took the field for their second of three full-squad workouts before opening the 2018 Cactus League slate on Friday vs. the San Diego Padres at 12:10 p.m. PT at the Peoria Sports Complex.
The club worked on 1st and 3rd plays and pick-offs during the defensive portion of this afternoon’s workouts before transitioning to live batting practice vs. pitchers such as James Paxton and Edwin Díaz. Hitters don’t take a lot of swings during live BP as they are mostly working on tracking the ball out of the pitcher’s hand and timing the pitcher.
