Mariners sign free agent pitcher Juan Nicasio to 2-year deal

Seattle added a "versatile" arm to its bullpen, signing right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio to a two-year deal.

The $17 million deal was agreed to during Winter Meetings last week but officially announced by Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto on Wednesday morning.

"Juan adds a versatile late-game presence to our bullpen," Dipoto said. "His ability to work multiple innings in high-leverage situations gives our staff tremendous flexibility. Juan fits us really well and we're excited that he is a Seattle Mariner."

Nicasio expected role is at the back end of the bullpen as late-game reliever, and set-up man for closer Edwin Diaz.
