Leave it to Jerry Dipoto.
The Seattle Mariners general manager made another splashy move of the offseason, acquiring speed-demon and two-time All-Star Dee Gordon in a trade with the Miami Marlins on Thursday, the Mariners confirmed.
“Dee provides us with a dynamic presence at the top of our lineup,” Dipoto said in a release. “His athleticism will be an asset both in our lineup and in the middle of our outfield for several seasons to come.”
Note that “middle of our outfield” part. Because Gordon, a second baseman primarily, has never appeared in the outfield in his seven seasons in the majors.
