The Mariners were coming off a win against the Red Sox when the two teams met for game two of the three-game series at Safeco Field on July 25.
Félix Hernández was on the mound and seemed to be back in form. Felix took a three-run lead into the 6th inning only to see it melt away after two walks and a wild pitch made the score 4–3.
Mike Zunino got the Mariners even in the 7th and the game would stay tied until the top of the 13th when Boston scratched out a run.
