The Mariners finish off this very long homestand by hosting the Orioles, one of the AL’s most surprising (derogatory) teams this season. The Orioles, a preseason darling playoff pick, instead find themselves buried in the basement of the AL East. Injuries have played a large role in the Orioles’ poor fortunes this year, and they’ll roll into Seattle without longtime Mariners-torturer Cedric Mullins or former Mariner prospect Tyler O’Neill.
However, the Orioles—fresh off a sweep of the White Sox, always good for what ails a ballclub—will get a huge bat back this series. The Orioles have been playing without one of their best players all season, as Colton Cowser has been out with a fractured thumb since the beginning of the season.
