Mariners’ four-game winning streak ends on walk-off wild pitch in series finale vs. Tampa Bay Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The red-hot Mariners were riding a streak where it seemed they could do wrong. That finally ended Wednesday afternoon, when the Tampa Bay Rays rallied for two runs in the ninth inning and a wild 7-6 walk-off victory at Tropicana Field.

After Kevin Kiermaier tied it with a solo home run to lead off the ninth against Mariners closer Matt Magill, the Rays loaded the bases with no outs. Facing Tommy Pham, Magill delivered a wild pitch, allowing Willy Adames to score from third base.

The Mariners went down slugging.

The Mariners took the lead with a three-run ninth-inning rally against Rays closer Emilio Pagan, surging ahead 6-5 on a one-out, two-run triple by ex-Ray Mallex Smith.
