Mariners first base Ryon Healy underwent surgery to remove bone spur from right hand

PEORIA, Ariz. — The solution to the lingering hand discomfort for Ryon Healy was made quickly on Wednesday. The Mariners announced that their projected starting first baseman underwent “successful” surgery to remove a bone spur from his right hand.

Per the medical update from the club and general manager Jerry Dipoto, the procedure was a “right hand metacarpal boss excision” performed by a Dr. Randall W. Culp in Philadelphia. Healy is expected to miss four to six weeks.

On Wednesday morning, manager Scott Servais confirmed that Healy was dealing with a hand issue that stemmed from offseason hitting and training, but said that he was undergoing more extensive tests to see the problem.
