The Mariners on Wednesday recalled right-hander Rob Whalen from Triple-A Tacoma and optioned righty Emilio Pagan to Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Whalen joined the big league club for one day on May 5 before he was optioned back to Triple-A without making an appearance. The 23-year-old, who began the season on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, was 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA in four starts for Tacoma this season.
Acquired along with right-hander Max Povse in an offseason deal that sent outfielder Alex Jackson and left-handed pitcher Tyler Pike to Atlanta, Whalen was 1-2 with a 6.
