Mariners Add to Stable of Young Pitching with 1st Round Draft Pick Emerson Hancock

Emerson Hancock’s outward demeanor belies his inner drive to win.

Mariners Southeast area scout John Wiedenbauer said Seattle’s 1st round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft has “a little fire in his eyes.”

His pitching coach at Georgia, Sean Kenny, described them as “crazy eyes.”

Offering his own scouting report, Hancock says, “I’m competitive. I’m fiery. I want to win.”

On the field, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander went 16–7 with a 3.47 ERA in 33 career starts for the Georgia Bulldogs. Harnessing a mid-to-upper 90s fastball, a power breaking ball, a wipeout slider and a devastating changeup, Hancock struck out struck out 206 and walked only 55 in 192.
