SEATTLE -- Mariners first baseman Logan Morrison was scratched from Thursday's series opener with the Rays about an hour before game time because of back spasms.
Morrison was replaced at first base by newly acquired Mark Trumbo, who had been slated as the designated hitter in his first game with the team. Trumbo arrived earlier Thursday afternoon, following Wednesday's trade from the D-backs.
Nelson Cruz was shifted to DH, Seth Smith moved from left field to right and Dustin Ackley, who was not scheduled to start, moved into the lineup in left field.
