Ken Griffey Jr. will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday at the Mariners' home opener.
Ken Griffey Jr. is set to become the first player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a Mariner later this summer, but first the former center fielder will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Friday night's home opener against the Athletics.
Griffey played 13 of his 23 seasons in Seattle (1989-99, 2009-10), where he became a national icon for his tape-measure home runs and acrobatic catches. An American League MVP in 1997, Griffey was elected to the All-Star Game 13 times, won 10 Gold Gloves and hit 630 home runs.
