In his big league debut, Adrian Sampson becomes sixth Washington-born pitcher to start a game for the Mariners

The Mariners made the expected roster move official on Saturday morning. Right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson had his minor league contract selected from Class AAA Tacoma and was added to the 25-man roster. To make room, left-hander David Rollins was optioned back to Tacoma.

Sampson will start on Saturday afternoon vs. the Red Sox in his Major League Baseball debut.

Born in Redmond and raised in Isssaquah, Sampson, 24, was a standout at Skyline High School and then pitched for Bellevue College. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft by the Pirates. Seattle acquired him last season from the Pirates in exchange for pitcher J.
