Florida champagne thief gets stuck in the mud

HOBE SOUND, Fla. (WPEC) - A man's quest for a clean getaway with $800 worth of stolen bubbly ended in the mud along Interstate 95.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office said Enrique Fernandez walked out of a Publix in Hobe Sound with a shopping cart full of champagne.

Authorities say Fernandez hopped into a waiting car and the driver took off.

Deputies stopped the car and the driver bolted. Investigators say Fernandez then hopped into the driver's seat and drove away.

Deputies chased Fernandez along I-95. His car eventually got stuck and sank in the mud when he tried to cross the median.
