MINNEAPOLIS — Felix Hernandez was brilliant in his second rehab start on Sunday. The mechanical issues and lack of pitching rhythm that plagued him in his first outing were non-existent at Cheney Stadium. The Mariners’ ace pitched five innings, allowing one run on one hit with a walk and five strikeouts.
But that outing wasn’t enough to expedite his return from the disabled list and back into the starting rotation.
On Monday, manager Scott Servais confirmed that they will stay with the modified plan to have Hernandez make a third rehab start. It will come on Saturday at Cheney Stadium with the Tacoma Rainiers.
