Danny Hultzen clears waivers, outrighted to Class AAA Tacoma

Danny Hultzen is still a Mariner.

On Wednesday morning, the club announced that Hultzen – the No. 2 overall pick in 2011 – had cleared waivers and was outrighted to Class AAA Tacoma.

Hultzen was designated for assignment on November 20 to clear up space on the 40-man roster. It was logical move considering he was out of minor league options and would eventually have to be designated when he didn’t make the Mariners’ big league team at the beginning of the season. The Mariners chose to make the move earlier. They will have control of him through the 2017 season, after which he can become a minor league free agent.
