SEATTLE -- Mitch Haniger scored the deciding run on some small ball in the bottom of the eighth, then made a spectacular catch in the ninth, securing Edwin Diaz's Major League-leading 54th save and 3-2 Mariners win over the Yankees on Sunday at Safeco Field.
Haniger drew a leadoff walk off Dellin Betances in the eighth inning, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and came home on a Robinson Cano RBI fielder's choice to give Seattle the game's decisive run.
The Mariners remain 7 1/2 games back in the hunt for the second American League Wild Card spot, with the A's scoring seven unanswered runs to best the Rangers, 7-3, in Oakland on Sunday.
