SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis went 5-4 overall on Friday's first day of competition at the Bronco Invitational, going 2-1 in doubles and 3-3 in singles.
Sophomore Katya Tabachnik highlighted the day with a win each in doubles and singles.
Paired with fellow sophomore Elvena Gevargiz, Tabachnik beat Nevada's Selina Turulja and Maria Tatarnikova, 7-5. And in the afternoon singles match, Tabachnik needed three sets to defeat San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
"I was happy with the overall performance of the team. They did well and battled hard despite missing a two of the players.
