SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing the highest scoring team in the nation, Santa Clara women's soccer put forward a tough effort but fell to No. 2 Stanford 2-1 Sunday night at home.

The Broncos (3-5-1) defense stood tall against a Cardinal (7-1) offense that entered the night scoring over five goals per game. The first half shutout by Santa Clara was the first scoreless period of the season for Stanford and the two goals matched a season-low.

With the score knotted at 1-all, Michelle Xiao put the Cardinal on top in the 75th minute. Jaye Boissiere found Xiao on the left side of the box and she hit a perfect shot into the upper-right corner of the goal.
