SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball fell to Long Beach State 10-4 and Northwestern 2-1 Saturday on the second day of the Santa Clara Round Robin.Game 1
After a solid start, the wheels came off for Santa Clara (7-16) when an error led to three Long Beach State (11-16-1) runs in the fifth. The 49ers added five more in the sixth and two in the seventh to blow it open.
Long Beach State loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the fifth. A grounder to third looked like a tailor-made double play but after the out at home was recorded, France's throw sailed over the first base and two runs came around to score.
