TUCSON, Ariz. – The Catalina Course at the Omni Tucson National Resort has hosted over 30 PGA events since opening in 1963. Nobody mastered the layout as well as Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh did during Sunday's opening round.
Shieh recorded an eagle on the par-5, 511-yard 10th hole and scored eight birdies to finish the day with what is believed to be a course record 10-under 62. His record-setting afternoon put the Broncos in a tie for first place after the opening 18 holes.
Tyler Kertson, Michiel Eyre III and Charlie Watson all carded an even-par 72, and Santa Clara's team total of 278 has them knotted with Nevada entering today's second round.
