SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing without its starting point guard due to injury, Santa Clara women's basketball lost to San Diego 70-58 on Saturday afternoon in Leavey in a physical game.
The third quarter doomed Santa Clara, with the Broncos being outscored 20-7 during the period. The Toreros scored the first nine points of the second half with the first seven coming from Maya Hood.
"In the third quarter they came out and got some big rebounds and raised the level of play," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "I thought we did too but they came up with the offensive boards and were more aggressive.
