SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team came up just short in its bid for another top-40 win as the No. 34 Denver Pioneers outlasted the 72nd-ranked Broncos, 4-3, Saturday at Degheri Tennis Center.
Daniella Silva, bumped up from No. 3 to No. 2 singles, evened the match at 3-all by dealing Denver's Bianca Mok just her second defeat of the season in a 6-3, 6-2 win.
But Morgan Barnhill was able to hold off Santa Clara's Zeina El Tawil 7-6 (9), 6-3 at the No. 6 position to clinch the match for the Pioneers (13-3), sending them to their sixth-straight victory, including fourth in a row by a 4-3 score.
