PROVO, Utah – Led by freshman Matt McCarty and junior Hayden Shieh, who both tied for third on the individual leaderboard, Santa Clara men's golf carded a season-best 6-under 282 in the final round to finish in a fourth-place tie at the PING Cougar Classic with a tournament total of 9-under 855.
Shieh scored a final round 3-under 69 and McCarty a 1-under 71, finishing with four other players at 6-under 210, one shot behind co-champions Pavan Sagoo of Saint Mary's and LMU's Blake Meek.
McCarty bogeyed his final hole and Shieh was 1-over on his next-to-last hole, preventing them from earning a share of the lead.
