Trend toward big goalies reflected in Sharks-Predators series

NASHVILLE — When San Jose’s Martin Jones looks across the ice in this series, he sees a goalie with a similar frame.

Jones is 6-foot-4 and Nashville’s Pekka Rinne is 6-5.

Nothing unusual about that.

“I feel like there are so many big guys nowadays in the league and goalies in general,” said Rinne, an All-Star this season. “I feel like the trend nowadays is a lot of big guys. You still have to be athletic and fast.”

Rinne made 55 saves in the first two games of the Western Conference semifinal series, but lost both.
