Thornton named as Sharks Player of the Year

SAN JOSE – For the third time in his Sharks career, Joe Thornton was selected as the team’s Player of the Year as chosen by the local media.

The 36-year-old veteran led the Sharks in scoring with 81 points (19g, 62a) headed into Saturday night’s season finale with Arizona, and was tied for fourth in the NHL in scoring.

Thornton received 19 first place votes out of 31, as well as seven second place votes and three third place votes. Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns, Martin Jones and Marc-Edouard Vlasic rounded out the top five.
