Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro became one of the few players drafted in recent years to make the jump straight from the NCAA to the NHL without having to spend time in the minor leagues.
After he agreed to join the Sharks earlier this week, John Leonard hopes to follow in the footsteps of his former roommate at UMass-Amherst.

“The reason why Mario was able to do that was just based off his work ethic and his drive to want to be great,” Leonard said Friday in a teleconference with local reporters.
