VANCOUVER — Joe Thornton skated through the neutral zone and caught up to Brandon Sutter before he delivered a shoulder-to-shoulder check that laid out the Vancouver Canucks forward. Sutter then skated across the ice back toward Thornton, only to receive a short left hand to the face for his troubles.

It all took place at the end of a frustrating night to conclude a depressing road trip that couldn’t wrap up soon enough for the Sharks, who lost 4-1 to the Canucks at Rogers Arena in their last game before a week-long break.
